He sought assistance from nations with advanced economies to secure the Strait of Hormuz.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio attended the Group of Seven (G7) Foreign Affairs Ministerial in Cernay-la-Ville, France, on Friday.
State Department Spokesperson Tommy Pigott said that Secretary Rubio met “with foreign ministers from partner nations to discuss shared security concerns and opportunities for cooperation. Areas of focus will include the Russia-Ukraine war, the situation in the Middle East, and threats across the world to peace and stability.”
Secretary Rubio said that the rest of the nations in the group, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Canada, should assist with security for the Hormuz Strait. Discussions also took place regarding support for Kyiv, Ukraine, and stronger sanctions on Russia.
“Very little of our energy comes from the Strait of Hormuz. It’s the world that has a great interest in that, so they should step up and deal with it,” Secretary Rubio told reporters. “A couple of leaders in Europe… said that this was not Europe’s war. Well, Ukraine is not America’s war, and yet we’ve contributed more to that fight than any other country in the world.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary Rubio as he engages in discussions with foreign ministers on global conflicts.
- For wisdom for U.S. officials, including the vice president and secretary of state, as they negotiate for peace around the world.
